Lazise
The castle is attributed to the Scaligeri, the ruling family of Verona, who had it built in the mid fourteenth century, even if the first construction probably dates back to before the year one thousand. The doors of access to the walled town are the Superior door, the door of the Lion, which was renamed the Southern door, and the New door, which today is known as the Cansignorio door. By the harbor stands the church of San Nicolò, the patron saint of seas and navigators, erected in Romanesque style in the twelfth century and decorated on the inside with numerous and important fourteenth-century frescoes of the Veronese School that unfortunately are not very well preserved. Very beautiful is the face of a "Madonna with Child." Numerous boats that link the towns on Lake Garda leave every day from the wharf, which has recently been restructured.
