Peschiera
The center of town, with the wonderful and well-constructed promenade on which the streets converge, has a number of public squares; one of these is a former “piazza d’armi” to the side of which stands the parish of San Martino Vescovo. Of great artistic and historical value is the Sanctuary of the Madonna del Frassino, which was erected in the place where, in the sixteenth century, a peasant, Bartolomeo Broglia, threatened by a snake while he was working in a vineyard, saw the Virgin Mary and her Child appear to him as a small statue amongst the branches of an ash tree, used at the times as a stake for the grapevines.
