Renowned in the world for being the city of the great architect Andrea Palladio, Vicenza is rich of art and of ancient and valued traditions. Besides the architectonic gems that have made it justly famous, the Basilica Palladiana, the Olympic Theatre and the Rotonda, to name only the most magnificent ones, Vicenza houses dozens of artistic masterpieces in its numerous churches and its luxurious Palaces. In 1994, Unesco included the city of Vicenza, with its historic center and sixteen Palladian villas, on the World Heritage Site list.
The most typical dishes are: stockfish Vicenza style, capon canevera style, kid on the spit, mutton with rice and peas, and the many risotto varieties, among which the one with Lumignano peas. Very well known are the asparagus and the grappe of Bassano. Vicenza is also famous for the Gold Fair, which is held in January, May and September.
